Lab 3 - In the Cloud

We’ll be using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to complete most of our labs from here on out. More specifically, you will be using Google Compute Engine to launch a virtual machine running linux. From this machine, you can carry out your work.

GPC has some nice free tier services that should cover our needs for this class. Just in case, you’ll be getting $50 in credit for GPC. So, if you accidentally incur some costs, you should be covered.

Today’s goals are pretty straight forward:

1. Create your GPC account using your Monmouth College e-mail and the $50 coupon (see email from your instructor)
2. Setup budget and spending alerts to be certain you know if you’re incurring costs.
3. Launch a free-tier compute resource. Mess around. Stop and restart your compute.
4. Optional Exploring managing and connecting to your GCP resources from your own, local terminal.

There’s nothing to turn in for today’s lab, but do not leave until you’ve shown the instructor that you’ve successfully launched a linux VM and can ping and traceroute to your VM from a your computer or a lab computer.
